In honor of our mission to support those who are grieving the loss of a child or loved one, we are hosting our first Annual Indianola to Bainbridge Island Swim on August 15th, 2026.
This year, we swim in memory of our friend, Alan Burkett. April 25, 1957 - October 23, 2025.
WHY WE'RE SWIMMING
Grief doesn't follow a schedule. It arrives in the middle of the night, at the grocery store, on ordinary Sunday afternoons. For those who have lost a loved one, it becomes the shape of daily life.
On August 15th, we're taking to the waters of Puget Sound to say: you are not alone in this.
The swim is a tribute and a declaration. We move through something cold and vast and beautiful because grief is cold and vast and beautiful, and because on the other side of hard things, there is still the sun on the water and the people who showed up beside you.
Every stroke is dedicated to a loved one lost. Every participant is here to honor their loved one, and those carrying grief. As we swim, we take each stroke and each breath honoring this path of grief and transformation.
ABOUT MAITRI GUEST HOUSE
Maitri, a Sanskrit word rooted in the ancient concept of loving-kindness, is exactly what its name promises.
Maitri Guest House is a retreat and supportive place for people who have experienced the death of a loved one. It offers a tranquil space, at no cost to the families who need it most.
Funds raised through this swim go directly toward hosting grieving families: covering room and board and transportation, so that Maitri can continue to serve people who are rebuilding their lives as they carry sadness and loss.
You don't have to swim to be part of this.
